James 5:14-16A
14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed.
Though my dad talked about three things related to this passage (divine healing, calling upon elders, and how sickness is related to sin) I want to focus on just one here: sickness' relation to sin. All sickness is related to sin. Now, before you ex out of here and never read my blog again, please listen for a moment. Sickness may not be related to sin in your own life, though it might. To find out, examine yourself to see if you can find any un-confessed sin in your heart. Sickness also may be because of the sin of others. Such as a person sneezing into their hand, then walking up and shaking yours (okay, this isn't really sin, more like negligence. It still makes you sick though.) Finally, sickness is ultimately because of man's sin in the Garden of Eden. There was no sickness in the Garden before man's fall. Now, all human kind is plagued with the curse of sickness. Maybe, you have sickness in your life. Maybe you're not physically sick, but spiritually. For that, the remedy is simple:
- A- Admit to God you are a sinner. (Romans 3:23)
- B- Believe that Jesus is the Son of God. (Romans 10:9)
- C- Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord. (Romans 10:9)
