Do You Like Your Name?

Well, do you? Do you like your name? Really, truly? I love my name. I was named Jaquelle because that was my mom's favourite name since her childhood. You may not like your name. Maybe sometimes you sit and wonder why your parents named you what they did. Maybe you have a really dorky name that everyone teases you about. Or maybe your name is so old-fashioned that people have trouble pronouncing it. Maybe you even love your name. Today I don't want to talk about your name. At least not your human name.

John 1:12-Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.

The verse above tells us that if we have accepted Jesus Christ as our Saviour, then we are God's children. To His children, God gave a special name. A name that identifies us with Him. The name is.....CHRISTIAN. Peter tells us in one of His letters that we should praise God because we bear that name. You may (I pray that you aren't) be ashamed that you are Christian. People may tease you at school or work because of your title. Don't be ashamed or embarrassed because you are a Christian, but praise God with thankfulness because He rescued you from the dominion of darkness.

1 Peter 4:16: However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name.
