Daddy's Daughter: A Short Summary of My Dad's Sermon

Hi readers! It's great to be back to my church to hear my dad's sermons once again. Hope you enjoy the summary of my dad's sermon!
True Freedom
(1 Peter 2:16)

As Remembrance Day comes up for Canadians, a popular poem comes to mind-"In Flanders' Field." The poem talks about soldiers that died for Canadians like me and even you (if you're indeed Canadian). Before we look at the text, (1 Peter 2:16) we need to look at the context of 1 Peter.

AUDIENCE: Christians that lived in present day Turkey.
AUTHOR: Peter, who was an apostle.
THEME: Suffering & trials.

Peter tells us how to live free. But first we have to ask 'Free from what?' There are 3 things that we are free from.
  1. Our futile ways. Such as... Works salvation & idolatry.
  2. Condemnation.
  3. Death.
By now, you may or may not have figured out that true freedom is freedom in Christ. Now that we know 3 things that we are free from if we turn to Christ, we need to look at what freedom is not.
  • Licentiousness.
Licentiousness basically means "a free for all." It's the opposite of legalism, being too focused on laws. Licentiousness means that we can do whatever we want, whenever we want. We want a happy medium. This isn't easy, but it's something that we should wholly try to achieve.
