Daddy's Daughter: A Short Summary of My Dad's Sermon

New Life's Resolutions
Read Romans 6:1-4

A new year is coming up. As of Friday, we officially begin the year of 2010. Many people make New Year's Resolutions. My dad looked up the 3 most common New Year's Resolutions. They are . . .
  • Relationships (i.e. not arguing with spouse; spending more time with family; getting married)
  • Health (i.e. Lose weight; exercise more; eat healthier)
  • Finances (i.e Get promotion; get more money; spend less)
There is nothing wrong with those resolutions as long as you don't deal with the problems that sometimes sprout from them. Problems? you ask. Yes, problems.
  • Relationship resolutions sometimes lead people to forget that God is first.
  • Health resolutions sometimes lead people to forget that we need to focus on the inside more than the outside.
  • Finance resolutions sometimes lead people to forget that God is before money.
We need to be concerned about ourselves and our souls. If we are Christians, we are dead to sin and alive in Christ. Now we need to look at the context of Romans.

Q: Who wrote Romans?
A: Paul

Q: Who did he write it to?
A: Roman Christians

There may be a bit of a problem for you. Maybe you accepted Christ a long time ago, but you still enjoy sinning. Take a break for a moment and think about Jesus. Think about Him on the cross . . . for you. Think how He had nails ripped through His wrists and His feet . . . for you. Think about how He had to pull Himself up just to take a breath . . . for you. Think about how He finally gasped out, "It is finished!" . . . for you. Please tell me now, how you can think about what Jesus did for you and not loathe sin? If you haven't died to sin, you are certainly not alive to Christ.

Are you walking or standing still in your relationship with Jesus?

How is your walk with Jesus?

Let's W.A.J.W. What?! you say. I said, "Let's Walk As Jesus Walked."
