Daddy's Daughter: A Short Summary of My Dad's Sermon

Happy Last Day of February, readers. We will continue our final Olympic posts starting tomorrow. Enjoy James' sermon as he warns the rich.

When Too Much Is Not Enough
James 5:1-6

James starts out talking to the rich. Longing for wealth above all things is a problem. The pursuit of wealth causes three things.
  • The pursuit of wealth plagues all people. If you say you are not rich, then think about this: Over 50% of the world makes a maximum of $2 a day. If you make more than that (or have more than that) then you are rich. (vs. 1)
  • The pursuit of wealth provides dangerous distractions. Wealth can take us away from spending precious time with God, our friends, & family. (vs. 2-4)
  • The pursuit of wealth causes dire consequences. (vs. 5-6)
So, beware of the danger of pursuing wealth. We only have one life; let's use it to glorify God. C.T. Studd said, "Only one life, 'twill soon be past, only what's done for Christ will last."
