The Power of Prayer
James 5:13
"Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise."
James 5:13
"Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise."
In James 5:13-18, Pastor James is finishing up his letter. In verse 13, he starts by saying, "Is anyone among you suffering?" This is a show of hands people. Of course! Lots of people are suffering. Suffering is internal trouble because of external circumstances. James' solution is short and to the point here: pray. It's as simple as that. The reason we have so much suffering is because we don't pray enough. Next, James asks, "Is anyone cheerful?" There's ought to be a hand-full of hands (I crack myself up!) shooting up now. Plenty of people out there are pretty cheerful. Then start singing, people! Sing praise to God for He is responsible for your cheerfulness. His goodness gives us blessings. So, if you're enduring suffering, get down on your knees. If you are going through happy times, then sing "Hallelujah!" Praise God!
