Your Chains are Gone

My dad decided to take a break from Judges this morning to focus on Galatians 5:1, which speaks of freedom. And what better time to do that then on July 4, Independence Day?
Paul writes "For freedom Christ has set us free." Freedom requires two very simple things.
- Freedom requires captivity. We can't be set free if we aren't captured first. But you're probably wondering why we were taken captive. We were taken captive into sin by our own choice, back in the Garden of Eden. When Adam first sinned, we all became captured.
- Freedom also requires being set free. It sounds silly, but it's true. Christ Jesus set us free when He died on the cross for our sins. We were made to be free and serve God, so God set us free to fulfill our purpose.
