I just finished a great Christian book series called: the Yada Yada Prayer Group by Neta Jackson. In book 7 , the final book (the Yada Yada Prayer Group Gets Decked Out), a great part caught me off guard. In this part, Jodi Baxter (a member of the Yada Yada Prayer Group) has just stepped up to read scripture at her son (Josh) and his fiancé's (Edesa) wedding. I'd like to share it with you:
"I joined the wedding party at the front and turned to the place I'd marked in my Bible. "I'm reading from Colossians chapter 3, verses 12 through 14." I cleared my throat. "Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience-" I caught my breath. The words "clothe yourselves" stuck in my ears. I almost gasped in amusement, remembering our lively Yada Yada discussion about coming "decked out" to Josh and Edesa's wedding. ... But this scripture was talking about being "decked out" with compassion! Kindness! Humility! Hoping I hadn't paused too long, I hastened to the next verse. "Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love."
