What Is Our Generation Coming To?

As I was browsing the CBC News website, looking for a current event story yesterday (on Wednesdays, for school, we have to report on a story in the news, where it took place, how it affects us and that kind of stuff), a headline caught my eye in the Nova Scotia section (I often like to check out what's happening in my province.) The headline stated: Swarming teens attack two in Halifax.

Huh.

The story goes on to say, "A gang of about 20 teenagers beat two people and robbed one of them late Monday in central Halifax, police say ... Police said the group consisted of boys and girls in their early to late teens."

In other words, 13 year olds to 19 year olds. What is our generation coming to? Attacking innocent people in swarms. Is that what our schools our teaching? Is that what peer pressure is coming to? Lord help us.

My first instinct was to be furious at them. They're smearing the name of "teen" as we speak, but then something else hit me. A different reaction. Compassion. And as I now think about it, I really feel sorry for them. They, like everyone else, need to hear the gospel. They're troubled kids that need Jesus.

They're no different than us, though. We smeared the name of "Jesus" like they smeared the name of "teen."

When we studied the Way of the Master in Bible Study, it encouraged and taught us to have compassion for the lost. Because if we don't have any compassion, how will we reach them? If we don't care, why would we share the gospel?

Our generation is in shambles. What are we going to do? Are we going to sit back and watch our teens turn to gangs and beat and rob innocent people? Are we going to let them ruin their lives? Or are we going to do something different?
