Today we packed away the Christmas stuff. Away went the ornaments. Down went the garland. Out went the tree. By the end of the day, our house was back to normal. Everything was clean, tidy, and de-Christmastized. I wonder if that's how we feel sometimes as Christians. During the holiday season, we get decked out in our spiritual ware. We go to church every Sunday of December, make more of an effort to do devotions, go to church on Christmas Eve, give extra to the church offering, etc., etc. And then when Christmas passes, we clean the Bible reading, offerings, faithful church attending, constant prayer out of our lives and get back to "normal." It's somehow easier to serve Christ right around the time everyone celebrates His birth than to serve Him in the middle of a gray January day, when all thoughts of that blessed baby have been swept out of everyone's mind along with the Christmas dinner leftovers. But I hope that as we take down the reminders of Christmas from our homes, we would not from our hearts. Let's seek to serve and celebrate Christ all the year and make an effort to pray constantly, be in our devotions diligently, and attend church faithfully. So, after Christmas, when we get back to normal, our normal would be right at the feet of our Master, where we are constantly serving Him, no matter the time of the year.
