Today I attended a funeral. Normally funerals leave me somewhat depressed and dwelling on death. But not this funeral. And that was because of the hope I left the church with, hope for the future. Because of Jesus' sacrificial death and victorious resurrection, we don't have to fear death. We can look forward to a day when death is gone, when there will be no more tears, no more pain, no more darkness, no more sadness, no more sin, and no more hopelessness. It is for that day that we can have hope.
So when we go to funerals, we can definitely grieve, but let's "not grieve as others do who have no hope." (1 Thessalonians 4:13) For our Saviour conquered death and gave us reason for wonderful, glorious hope!
