Sin is not a topic we like to think about - especially our own sin. It makes us feel bad, uncomfortable, and altogether squirmish. But if we thought more about sin, we would understand it better. And understanding sin better is the key to mortifying it.
If we thought about the blackness of sin that corrodes our own heart ...
If we thought about the consequences of sin ...
If we thought about how David responded to his sin ...
If we thought about the offense sin is against a holy God ...
If we thought about sin stunting our sanctification ...
If we thought about sin straining and destroying relationships ...
If we thought about the horror of being given over to our sin ...
If we thought about the pain sin causes ...
If we thought about the origin of sin ...
And if we realized that it was our sin that put Jesus on the cross - every bitter thought, every unkind word, every sin of pride and greed and gossip and worry and prayerlessness and hypocrisy and waste of time ...
We would think about sin more. And we would hate it.

Be killing sin, or it will be killing you.
