Reflections From a Hospital Cafeteria

While I wait in the Veteran's Hospital cafeteria for my ride to finish her physiotherapy session, there is a buzz of life.

There are elderly people sitting alone and reading papers and drinking coffee and nurses in scrubs eating yogurt on their breaks and tables full of people talking and laughing and picking at Tupperware containers with plastic cutlery.

The sun is shining through the windows. People walk by in streams.

Life is happening. People are moving and breathing and living.

Today is a precious gift. We are all here for a reason - an immeasurably valuable reason. We are all here because God has given this day to us.

You are where you are reading this because God has placed you there.

Rejoice and be open to living with abandon for Him today. It is His day anyway. How will you serve today? How will you obey? How will you show gratitude?

Smile. Pray. Say grace. Thank Him.

Embrace the day. You will never get it back. As The Valley of Vision prayer says, "If my life should end today, let this be my best day."

Your best day.
