Podcasts are kind of "in" right now. It was only last autumn that I hopped on the podcast train myself and I've spent many an entertaining and informative hour listening to theologians and laymen.
If you're wondering what exactly I listen to that is so informative and entertaining, here are 6 podcasts I regularly enjoy.
The World and Everything In It - This is a 30-minute daily news report from a Christian perspective. Sure, it's all American news, but this Canadian still finds it acutely informative. There are also fun segments with book and movie recommendations, cultural analyses, clips from famous speeches, and more. I highly recommend it.
The RELEVANT Podcast - This is my very entertaining and sorta-kinda educational weekly listen. It's the first podcast I started listening to, and I basically fell in love with the hosts. I disagree with a lot of RELEVANT's theological perspectives and many of the perspectives of the guests they have on, but these people have a good time and they entertain you doing it. I have never not laughed out loud at an episode. Still, I find it a good exercise in discernment and critical analysis. Plus, they always have great music.
Calvinist Batman - The title makes it sound like a joke, but it's not. These weekly hour-long podcasts are all hosted by, yes, Calvinist Batman and chronicle his interviews with famous theological guests - everyone from Voddie Baucham to James White to Randy Alcorn to Gloria Furman. They're excellent, and I always learn a lot from them.
This American Life - This is not a Christian podcast at all, but it's still enlightening. Each episode is a collection of real-life stories built around a common theme and told by masterful narrators. I only recently started listening, but I've been enjoying it.
Popcorn Theology - Popcorn Theology is a podcast that I admittedly do not listen to every week. Each episode is a theological discussion of a particular movie or TV show, so I typically only listen to the episodes about the programs I've watched or am interested in. Their episode on Home Alone was what first sucked me in, and I've been a regular listener ever since.
Ask Pastor John - I don't listen to every episode of this podcast either, but I'm always benefited when I do. These are short episodes where John Piper answers tough questions. He tackles everything from, "Should Christians swear on the Bible?" to, "Did biblical writers mature over time?" It's a good one. Take a listen.
