One of my favorite weeks of the entire year is usually the second week of July. Because that's VBS.
I love VBS with all my heart. And here are 8 reasons why.
1. I love kids.
I've always loved serving in kids ministry, and VBS is basically the most epic kids ministry in existence.
2. I love the music.
Choosing the music each year is my job, and I take it very seriously. Even if we use a curriculum, we rarely use more than their theme song because I'd rather choose songs that 1) don't presume on their singer's salvation and 2) contain as many explicit gospel references as possible.
3. I love serving with my church.
It's no secret that I love my church, and serving with them at VBS each year always brings us closer together.
4. I love having gospel conversations every day.
The kids who come to our VBS are mostly unchurched and unsaved. So we get to have amazing, insightful gospel conversations with them every day.
5. I love the energy.
VBS is crazy. It's exciting and it's energetic and it's fast. I feed off this.
6. I love the video.
Every year my dad makes a video of our week, and we show it to the kids and their families on the last day. It is a huge blast.
7. I love the creativity.
My church puts on a good VBS. I'm not bragging, just stating a fact. It's largely due to my grandparents, the masterminds behind planning and decorating. They literally start buying decorations 11 months before VBS. And our tiny church is decorated from floor to ceiling (we usually have things hanging from the ceiling!) with theme decor, posters, interactive displays, floor runners, and anything else you can think of.
8. I love listening to my dad preach the gospel to a room of unsaved kids.
As I mentioned earlier, most of our attendees are unsaved. My dad teaches the Bible lesson each day and gives a robust but simple gospel message that I love hearing.
And that's what VBS is all about, gospel ministry to our community. This is why I love it the most.
