4 Great Hymns and Their Stories-Part 2: When I Survey the Wonderful Cross

Welcome, readers. Today's hymn is a great hymn. It's 'When I Survey the Wonderful Cross.' I put the words below.

Chorus: When I survey the wondrous cross on which the Prince of Glory died.
My Richest gain I count but loss and pour contempt on all my pride.
See from His head His hands His feet sorrow and love flow mingled down.
Did e'er such love and sorrow meet or thorns compose so rich a crown.

Oh the wonderful cross.
Bids me come and die and find that I may truly live.
Oh the wonderful cross.
All who gather here by grace draw near and bless your name.

Were the whole realm of nature mine that were an off'ring far too small.
Love so amazing so divine demands my soul, my life, my all.

Chorus

Love so amazing, so divine demands my soul, my life, my all.
And the beauty and the shame in the glory of His name.

This song is so powerful. When we think about the cross, I think that we forget that the cross is a good thing. Sometimes we tend to believe that the cross is a bad thing. Yes, the cross is where Jesus bled and died in pain and agony, but for us. If Jesus didn't die, then we wouldn't live. There would be no churches, and if there were any, they would be false religions. The cross may not seem like a good thing, but without the cross, we would be the ones in pain and agony. This song captures the concept perfectly: Oh, the wonderful cross. Bids me come and die, and find that I may truly live. Oh, the wonderful cross. All who gather here, by grace draw near, and bless your name.
