Daddy's Daughter: A Short Summary of My Dad's Sermon

Welcome, readers. Today we will be taking a short break from our 4 Great Hymns of the Bible series. Instead, we will talk about what I got out of my father's sermon this morning.

Today we looked at Philip's story in Acts 8:4-40. Sorry, I'm not going to paste the whole passage below, but I would encourage you to read the story yourself. The sermon in a sentence was 'The church must be a church on mission with God.' Yes, you read that right. Sure, you can read it, but do you believe it? In today's sermon, my dad also talked about that after Philip left Samaria and after leaving the eunuch, he left people rejoicing. It says right there in Acts 8:8 and Acts 8:39. So, do you see what happens. There's a pattern repeating itself here
  1. Philip preaches
  2. People believe and rejoice
Wow! I like this pattern. There was someone, though, who got in Philip's way. (Isn't there always someone?) This someone was named Simon. Simon was a magician who did amazing things, and when the people of Samaria saw him do these things they paid attention to him. Simon told them to look at him because he was someone great and the Samaritans believed him. But then Philip came along. When he preached, unlike Simon, he said 'Look at God! Look at God!' The people loved him all the more for this. The point of my dad's sermon, you may ask. Well, the point is 'The church must be a church on mission with God.'

Every where we go, God put us there for 1 purpose and 1 alone: To be Christ's witness.
