That was the command told to me by my photographer grandfather, at Peggy's Cove on Monday. My brother, my dad, and I were sitting on a bench overlooking the water at the Cove, when my grandpa decided to get a few 'candid' shots. When I tried to turn around and smile he told me to look straight ahead. (That's kind of funny, don't you think?) He then got some pictures from the front.
That got me thinking about one of God's commands in Joshua 1:7: Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.
That is a great verse that tells us that to obey God's commands we shouldn't turn away from our focus, God. If we do this, we not only will receive eternal life, but we will be successful wherever we go. Now, you may say that this is just a boring Old Testament passage (I pray that you won't), but Paul in the New Testament clearly says, in 1 Corinthians 9:24: Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.
Paul tells us that we should live life and run the race to receive the prize, eternal life. We need to focus on our goal, not turn aside to the right or to the left, and, above all, follow God.
