In Sunday School, at my church, all our classes are doing a study of the entire Bible. No, don't scream, it's not that scary. We're looking at one book each week and this week we're looking at Genesis. In my class, the Youth class, we are going through a book called 'The Bare Bones Bible Handbook for Teens.' It's by Jim George. In it you learn the big idea of each book, the main characters of each book, and how to apply spiritual truths from each book of the Bible to your life. He breaks down each book of the Bible. I'd like to share with you a bit of an overview of Genesis from Bare Bones Bible Handbook for Teens . . .
The Hebrew word for Genesis means "in the beginning," and that is exactly what Genesis is all about. As the first book of the Bible, Genesis lays the foundation for everything that is to follow, including the key truths God wants you to know in order to make sense of your life. Throughout the pages of Genesis you experience the awesome power of God in His creation, the holy judgment of God in the flood sent to punish the disobedience of humanity, and the tender mercy of God in His protection of Noah and his family from the flood. You also witness the fantastic grace of God as He sets in motion His plan to save mankind first through the founding of the nation of Israel, and ultimately through the sending of Jesus Christ. Genesis is filled with key moments that form the very basis of history . . .
