Well, I promised you a wham-bam finish, so here it is folks. The first guest blog post ever here at Jaquelle's Rose Garden by the one, the only . . . Best Home-school Mom ever (my mom) . . .
When I started homeschooling I really didn’t know how it would go, I just knew that we had to make a change as public school was not working for Jaquelle or Travis. We were in Texas at the time, which has a large number of home-schoolers, and I was able to get a lot of help getting started. I was amazed at the number and quality of resources available for just about every subject you could imagine. It was overwhelming at first but by trial and error we learned what curriculum works best for us.

We have gotten into a good routine and all work well together, although I’ll admit that there are a few days when it is hard to be both teacher and mom. Thankfully, those days are the minority and most days we get our work done and have a lot of fun in the process. We’ve done some really neat unit studies and have tried everything from jousting to making Italian Christmas sweets. I think I’ve learned more than either of the kids!
Being able to teach my own kids is such a blessing. I’ve watched them “get” new concepts. I’ve figured out their learning styles. I know what things challenge them and I know what things they find easy. I’ve had them amaze me with their comprehension of difficult matters. I’ve encouraged them to be creative in how they learn and been amazed with the results. They’ve taught me that we give far too little credit to what our children are capable of and when we constantly challenge them there is no limit to what they can do.
