A Home-School Family- Part 1: Wistful Wondering

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be home-schooled? Have you ever wanted to have a taste of the world of home-schooling? Have you ever wondered questions like, "Do they get to wear their pajamas to school?" or "Do they ever get a recess?" Well, your wistful wondering is over! I'm going to share with you our schedule, my Mom's basic standards, what happens if we do extra-credit, and how we home-school to the glory of God. There is even going to be a special surprise at the end (here's a hint: I won't be blogging the final home-school post!) Today I'm going to run you through a typical home-school day . . .

My brother, my Mom, and I need to be dressed, have eaten breakfast, and be already at the dining room table at 8:30. We start with a reading a few Proverbs, and then go to our own Bible Study. After that, we have daily subjects like Math and English, but the rest of our subjects vary from day to day. I will give you the list of all the subjects we do in one week:
  • Bible Study
  • Math
  • English
  • Science
  • History
  • Health (Just I do it)
  • Literature (Just I do it)
  • Cooking/Nutrition
  • Debate
  • Social Studies
  • Vancouver Olympics Study
  • French
  • Reading (I'm doing an Anne Frank Book Study)
  • Spelling
  • Creative Writing
  • Art
  • Music (Travis and I take music lessons on Wednesday afternoons)
We are allowed a snack and short break at about 10:30 and a lunch break for half an hour after lunch. We are often done before or by lunch.

Stay tuned as I dig into the world of home-schooling tomorrow . . .
