A Home-School Family- Part 2: Rules, Rules, Rules

Does your class or work have rules? Maybe they're something like, "No running with scissors," or "No going to the bathroom without a buddy," or even, "Don't bug the boss when the office door is shut." Do you like rules? Probably not. Most people don't. Rules are made for our protection and better enjoyment, though.

When my mom, my brother, and I are home-schooling, we have rules. Some are . . .
  • Pay attention to your own work, so that you may have the satisfaction of a job well done. (Galatians 6:4-5)
  • Do your very best work. (Numbers 18:29)
  • Listen to advice and correction. (Proverbs 10:17)
  • Don't make anything into a contest. (Philippians 2:4)
These are just a few rules that, I'm sorry to say, weren't invented just for home-schooler's. These are rules from God. "What?!" you say. It's true. God gives us rules. He wants to protect us and save us from trouble and heartache, so He gives us rules. These rules are found in the Bible. But don't think of the Bible as a dusty, old rule book. No, way! The Bible is filled with:
  • Adventure
  • Poetry
  • Romance
  • Battles
  • Letters
  • Advice
  • Rules for believers
  • Proverbs
  • Kings and Queens
  • God's people
In one sentence, "It's God's Word." And it was given to us. God loves us enough to give us this book, rules and all. He loves us so much. If He didn't, then He wouldn't give us rules. He gives us rules for protection, to save us from the horrible consequences.

So, whether you're following these as home-school rules, work rules, class rules, or even life rules, don't forget that these rules weren't made to bog us down, but to save us.
