Analogy Hour: God's Valentine

It's only a few days until Valentine's Day. That means: heart-shaped candy boxes, stuffed heart pillows, heart shaped cakes, muffins, and cookies. It also means Valentines cards. If you've ever been to a Valentines staff party or class party or sports party you are probably familiar with the tradition of giving out Valentines cards. It symbolizes that you care about a person. You care or love that person enough to give them a Valentines card. That got me thinking ...

God gave us a Valentines card. What?! you say. It's true. Okay, this card doesn't exactly say "Be Mine", and it doesn't have some cheesy gimmick on it like, "I Wanna Bee Your Friend" with a picture of a grinning bumble bee. Nope, it isn't heart shaped and there's no free chocolate included. It's a rather long card with almost 1,500 pages describing how much God loves us. Have you ever received a 1,500 page Valentines card from one of your friends or co-workers? I'm guessing not. This special Valentines card is most often referred to as the Bible.

The Bible is God's pure and holy Word, given to us by Him. He wants us to learn from it and use it as the final authority. It's filled with everything from advice to rules, romance to war, battles to shipwrecks, poetry to letters, parables to history. It's got everything that God chose to reveal to us. The Bible also contains some very important verses proclaiming and explaining God's love for us. Such as ...

1 John 4:8-"Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love."

John 15:9- "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love."

Romans 5:8- "
But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

This Valentines Day, let's remember True Love.

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life."
(John 3:16)
