My parents say that I was born 25 years before my time. They say that because my favourite show is "Murder, She Wrote." Never heard of it? Well, it's about this mystery writer named Jessica Fletcher (played by Angela Lansbury) who, between her travels and life in Cabot Cove, Maine, always manages to encounter a murder. She always ends up solving it. It's not graphic and it's an older show, so it doesn't show anything inappropriate (the episodes that I've seen anyway).
At our local library, when you sign up for a library card, you get either a kid's card or an adult card. Some of the adult movies or shows have stickies on them that say you are only allowed to take them if you are above a certain age limit, or have an adult card. Murder, She Wrote is one of those shows. If you've ever seen the show, you can see how ridiculous that is. But, I didn't tell you this so that you would boycott the library. Actually, I told you this so that you can think about some of the stuff you watch or have seen ads for on cable T.V.
Some of you may know who Walt Disney is. He is the founder and creator of Disney. If he were alive today, he would be a multi-gazzilionaire. When he started Disney, he created classic movies like Cinderella, Snow White, Mickey Mouse movies, Alladin, Pete's Dragon, and other fun-loving family movies. But then, Walt died. Over the years, Disney took a turn for the worse. 30 years ago, you could see the Disney label, and know that you were watching a clean, family friendly movie, but now, you can't just watch any Disney movie. You need to make sure that there's not swearing, too much violence, sex, rude humour, or inappropriate scenes. Our family uses a website called Pluggedinonline, which gives a description of any movie you want to look at. While I was searching on Disney, I found out that the Scary Movie series, which are known for their crude and disgusting content, are put out by Disney. Walt Disney would surely role over in his grave if he know what had happened to the family-friendly movies and shows that he created.
Now, I'm by no means saying don't watch Disney movies and T.V. shows. I mean, hey, I've even been to Disneyland. I like Mickey and Minnie Mouse. I watch select Disney movies and shows. I even have a Disney snow globe. I like Disney as much as the next girl. But, what I'm saying is that God warns us, telling us in the words of David, "I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless." (Psalm 101:3) God wants us to protect our eye sight by focusing our eyes on Jesus.
