Daddy's Daughter: A Short Summary of My Dad's Sermon

I Surrender Some
Judges 1-2:5

Partial obedience = total disobedience. That was the main message this morning, as my dad began his sermon series on the book of Judges. In chapter one of Judges, we learn about the tribe of Judah's partial obedience. The three things that Judah did to prove their partial disobedience were:
  1. When God told Judah to go into battle alone, Judah went into battle, but with its brother tribe, Simeon.
  2. When God told Judah to kill their enemy's king, Judah cut off the king's bigtoes and big thumbs, but spared the wicked king's life.
  3. When Judah was told to drive out their enemies, it didn't.
Angry at the tribes of Israel, the Angel of the Lord went up to the tribes to give them a talk. The Angel of the Lord told them to do three things:
  1. Look back at the history of God's people, and what God has done for them.
  2. Look around. You made covenants and promises to God, but you've obviously forgotten them, because you have disobeyed.
  3. Look forward and recognize the consequences of partial disobedience.
We must be entirely obedient to God, because partial obedience = total disobedience.
