Daddy's Daugther: Insights on My Awesome Dad's Sermon

So, welcome to Daddy's Daughter, a post each week where I share insights about my dad's sermon. "Hey dad, stop, what are you doing, come back here with my blog."

Hi y'all, its Jaquelle's dad here, and I have absconded with her blog because her insights from the sermon resulted in uncertainty. And she was not the only one I confused today on this point of my sermon, for I perceived confusion from others in the congregation as well (of which I take full responsibility for). Anyway, for the sake of clarity, I will make this short and sweet (just like Jaquelle).

The question Jaquelle asked me after the service was this: "So what is the baptism of the Holy Spirit in Mark 1:8 all about?"

The answer which I gave her, which I should have been more clear about with the congregation was: "The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is the total work of God in the life of a person at the point of conversion (as well as prior to and post conversion). The Baptism of the Holy Spirit (i.e. the work of the Holy Spirit) is summed up best by Paul in Titus 3:4-7. So I will leave you with those verses, then hand the Garden back over to it's rightful owner.

"But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life."

"Thanks for answering my question, Dad. And thanks for being such a great dad. And thanks for being such a wonderful preacher. And thanks for being such an all around great guy. I just can't express with words how great I think you are..."

"Hey, Dad, what are you saying??? You said you gave me back my blog. Why are you still typing. Come back here with my blog...."
