Have you ever heard of Miley Cyrus? She took the world by storm with her kids T.V. show, Hannah Montana, where she played Miley Stuart, a girl who was your typical teenager by day, but at night put on a blond wig and became pop star, Hannah Montana. She now focuses mostly on her singing and acting career ... um ... let's just say that it's outside the kids channel. There's been a lot of controversy over Miley Cyrus lately. It all started with a dirty music video she recently came out with called "Can't Be Tamed." I don't recommend you watch it; I've never even seen it. But I've read enough blog posts and Christian reviews to know that it is not one that would be played on the Disney channel. It seems that like so many other Hollywood teen stars, Miley Cyrus has moved from her "cute, innocent stage" to the "wild child, Lady Gaga, Madonna stage." And though this is all very sad, something that comes from this is even sadder.
Miley Cyrus claims to be a Christian.
She was apparently a Southern Baptist. When she first started Hannah Montana, she was pretty vocal about her faith. The moment she mentioned she was a Christian, Christians started praying for her all over North America. But after her most recent actions, BAM! The prayer lists are tossed in the garbage. Prayer meetings for her dissipate. People get together and pray for Justin Beiber now. But that's not how it should be! Yes, we should have definitely been praying for her all during her "innocent stage," but now that she's taken a path that's not God-honouring, she needs more prayer than ever. She needs Jesus more than ever.
That's why we need to be praying for Miley Cyrus. Though she's made some bad choices and sinful actions in the past and as I'm sure will in the future (as we all will), she's a sinner who needs Jesus just like the rest of us do. I'm not vouching for her actions, but I do want to encourage you to pray for Miley Cyrus and her family.
